this ain’t a song for the broken hearted

November 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Welcome back , Rovik!

It’s time to get back to my normal life again. It’s been a while since I blogged actually.

I’m sure you’re earnest on updates on my life so far, so here.

O Levels were better than expected. I hope to God I can get 8 A1s, with 4 points to go VJC. Only paper I’m spooked about is my Combined Humanities. Even retaking Tamil seemed like a smart option in retrospect.

Graduation Night 2009 was awesome. I quote from Kunal,  ”SJI’s hall was as good as a 7 star hotel.” I imagine its that fighting spirit of Josephians. Don’t give us a hotel? We’ll make due, but we’ll make sure that we make it just as good. Organizing Committee really pulled through. I got goosebumps when we all wore our suits and shirts, the future could be envisioned.

Here’s the video to all who wanted to see.

Tribute to the Legends from Rovik Robert on Vimeo.

Just click on the link.

Songs are :

  1. Gotta be Somebody by Nickelback
  2. We are Golden by Mika
  3. Just Haven’t Met You Yet by Michael Buble
  4. It’s a New Day by will.i.am
  5. Pictures of You by The Last Goodnight
  6. End of the Story by The Fray

Chief Commissioner Award Ceremony this Saturday. Can’t wait to get it done and over with actually. Following Shannon for his Venture Chord Hike next week with Santhosh. 90KM HERE I COME AGAIN.

Operation Omega is in good flow. Running 5km daily. Gonna slowly progress up.

Art of Change is getting back in gear, Look out for Creative Geniuses soon.

So that’s good for now. I’ll be writing in you more frequently, blog.

Cheers,

Rovik

Indo Chinese Cuisine and the Chaos Theory

October 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Out of a sudden whim to practice and indulge in creative writing, I now sit here blogging in an urgent desire to prevent my blog from spiraling into  obsolescence. Perhaps, it is my time engrossed in comprehensions and analysis of previous products, that I am motivated to challenge myself to complete an actual productive piece, akin to my aplomb nature.  I am aware of the possible sardonic comments that I am to receive, of the insanity that I display typing here instead of obsessing over  scoring a clean distinction in my O Level Examinations.

In another dimension, I’d rather spend my time sleeping.

Adieu

Omega

October 10, 2009 · 2 Comments

Definition : : the extreme or final part

So today I went to Victoria Junior College, and I have decided to go there no matter what. It officially initiates Operation Omega, something I have been planning for a long time. In the vivacious world of an aspiring innovator, struggling to find the story of his life, I made myself into what people would call, a class storybook character.

Now, I initiate my final plan – Operation Omega. I realise i cannot live in JC, the way i am now. It was useful in getting by Secondary School, but Operation Omega needs to get started today

Operation Omega

1) Lose 30 kg by February 2010. By Hook or By Crook. This weight I put on purpose, needs to go.

2) Skill Development – Guitar/ Photography

3) Muscle Toning – Benchpresses / Curls/ Dips/ Squats/ Bridges

4) Academic Spurt – haha, I haven’t touched my inner skill in a while. let’s go rovik.

5) Confidence Regain – Not at the expense of humility, but I realise I have been tormented to the point of forgetting my confidence.

Operation Omega has initiated and will be completed by February 2010. You ready to be flipped?

Teenage Philosophy

October 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’m taking a break from my hectic study schedule to update this blog.

So, Prelims weren’t as bad as I expected. 7 points, english pulled me down. Kinda ironic because I always thought essays were supposed to be creative. However, when the teacher’s don’t give read the essay once thoroughly before editing, it gets really annoying when she spams ???? marks on major plot twists that sum up later on. Eventually she comments, that I should be more simple in plot.

Sigh, in retrospect, it was kinda foolish of me to expect anything less of an Education system. No offence to them, of course. It’s difficult catering to the need of every individual, but its vexatious struggling against the common order.  Breakthrough. That’s the motto of ilovelife inc.

ilovelife inc.
inspired by Virgin inc.

ilovelife inc. is a variety management company.

First step – Breaking through the music scene.
Second – Magazine Publications

Look out for the future.

I can just imagine it. You’re driving past on the road, and you see on a giant billboard.

ilovelife inc.

Your Breakthrough.

By the way, I’m still supposed to do up one more affirmation page for my juniors, seniors and peeps. So look out for that after the O’s.

Life has changed much for me. Teenage Philosophy.

Perhaps its this stage of life that determines how we live the rest of our lives. Then again every decision we make later on counts as well.

Teenage Philosophy. Interesting ain’t it. I was thinking of drawing up a list of rules I think teens blindly follow, but hey, I’m still exploring right? Some rules are good to blindly follow , like Freaking Study for you Major Exams. Others are just dumb, like – Relationships are so cool.

4 years into adolescence and I’m still having fun. We’re all trying to find our inner selves. Frankly, I haven’t found my inner Rovik. But hey, I’ve still got a bit more time. Teenage philosophy dictates that we have to excel, to push now, or never live again.  I agree. You gotta accelerate now to enjoy the wind in your face later.

People have this unspoken belief that trends are there to be followed. Come on, its the 21st century. The trend is creating trends.  You know I’m sick of tired sitting and watching the news everyday, listening to radio DJs blabber about current events as if its gonna make us laugh at the poetic justice.  I don’t mind being a radical, ladies and gentlemen. If I’m gonna change the world, then I’m gonna start soon and start hard.

Politicians simply talk about the long term. Yes, long term plans are forward minded. They’re cool headed. Don’t get worked up Rovik, they say. Well ya, has anyone thought that if maybe each country adopted an African nation, humble a bit, then things could work smoothly. I bet its been attempted before. But don’t give up for pete’s sake! Sigh, Teenage Philosophy.

Relationships are tiresome. Yes, men and women of the world. Love is a hard nut to crack. How do you love someone you don’t love? How do you finally understand that she’s not just friends, but testing the waters? How do you manage 3 of them at once? I’m even getting tired of this casanovic lifestyle.  If anyone heard the last phrase, everyone’s gonna go “I told you so” Yes people, I realise being a player has its limitations, cos its inevitable to have to face the trauma of actually liking someone, and then having to leave them.

I should compile a list of rules I follow to ensure no repeats happen. Help the guys out there eh. Hahaha, just kidding bros.

I think that I should go
Something's telling me to leave
But I won't
'Cause I'm damned if I do ya

The only thing you can always fall back on , is God, Family and Friends. GFF for life man. ilovelife inc, is gonna change the world. Just you wait.

I need to find something to connect all my social networking sites. Too many to update. I’m gonna try my hand at constructing amateurish quotes I encounter every day, real life ones, that stay in my life.

Quote of the day : We’re all too numb to feel the pain of others, and actually scream in agony at the evil  that is the cause. You ever been poor? You ever been hit by an earthquake? You still watching tele and not doing anything about it? Numb sods.

September 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Alright, so this is the Thanksgiving Post for my all my bros in the Secondary 4 Level of 2009.  We’re a real special batch, I’m certain of that. I’ve hardly seen a level where everyone knows each other and all our lives are so interconnected.

432 is a real special bunch of bros. I think I will never regret joining this class. It’s one fo the best experiences I’ve had

For my General and Scouts Affirmations, please go to http://wp.me/pxeIP-15

To My Friends in 432:

Nicholas Tan Aum Yeo  - Chairman! Man, ever since ACE Camp, I’ve always had a certain respect for you, because no matter what, you always seem to maintain focus on you goals and ambitions. Being your friend is really special to me because I learn so much from you and I just want you to know that no matter of how much a nuisance I may have been, working with you was one of the best experiences I’ve had in SJI. From ACE Camp, to Harvard to planning all sorts of events in SJI together, we do have so much to recollect on, and if there’s one thing we both know, we’re getting less numb to the world each day. Real proud to be your friend man, Thanks!

It’s Time (Overall.Scouts’09)

September 3, 2009 · 1 Comment

I’ve always intended to do this before our O Levels, probably during Thanksgiving Week this year, but I’m coming to the realisation that I would probably be intensely studying then, and I’d like to make best use of my time to do this now.

So, this is my Thanksgiving/End of Year 2009 Post.

2009 has been weird for me. Frankly, I’ve had more fun during 2007-2008, but 2009 has made my life more fulfilled. I’ve found myself discovering new friendships,  new pursuits and new innovations. My life has suddenly been turned over as I realise its my O Level year, which is scary not because I am scared of not performing well, but rather because I really do not know what I want to be when I grow up.

I am what they call “The Jack of all Trades, Master of None”

A good relative of mine once told me that his life was as such as well, and he couldn’t go far as he really didn’t fit in anywhere. It’s indolent that this happens to me, but I’m thankful because I finally am thinking hard about what I want to be when I grow up. Producer? Aviation? Innovative Technology?

2009 has also challenged and created many friendships. I can’t count on my fingers the number of friends I have found and I really do thank God everyday for them.

My Family has also come through for me a lot this year, supporting me with my Stand Up Project, Chief Commissioner Award and even my Birthday Bash. I’ve grown much closer to them and its a refreshing feeling.

I’ve managed to rack up quite a few accomplishments, which I am humbled to be selected for, like the NYAA Silver, Chief Commissioner Award, Scholarship and more. 2009 has proven to be me that even without posts, levels, or heirachy, one can excel and exceed capabilities to acheive his best. It’s also shown me that people you trust to take up responsibility can have a lapse in responsibility and that leadership is so flexible, that making use of its flexibility is the best way to move on.

Change and Thought have been two of my themes for this year. As those who read my posts would know, I like to theme each year at the end to sort of put an epigrammatic title to it. I’ve been very indulged in my research and pursuit of knowledge in the way society functions, people think and behave as well as how the world changes. There’s been a lot of change in my life as well, one of them being the movement from a multi faceted life , to one just focussed on my O Levels now. Even our principal has changed.

With that, I’d like to thank the following people for having such an important and large impact on my life:

God- There’s no way I can’t put him first. I’m born Christian but I never wanted to accept Christiany till I explored my life with him. I’m still in the journey honestly, trying to find myself in Christ, but I’ve accepted him a long time back as the sole saviour.  He’s never failed to show me what he’s capable of, and surprising me with his humour sometimes. At the same time, he knows how to make you feel the pinch when you stray and make you understand what he’s trying to do. The beauty of his ways is really remarkable.

My Family – First off, hats off to Dad and Mom for being there for me no matter what. It’s kinda weird being the eldest son, cos you’re the experimental one. But it’s such an exhilirating experience once your folks start letting go and understanding. They’ve really shown me how blood runs thicker than water and that family always comes first. Ronak and Rovina, my two sibs, thanks for being such great companions.  Questions, Curiosities and thrill make me wake up from my self-possessed depression always and remind me to “lovelife”.

My Friends

I don’t really keep best friends, I do have close friends, but no best friends. So the order of how I affirm my friends is by my memory. You’ll see the trend I guess.

Imran – God, dude, it’s 4 years already man. I remember those stupid days in Sec 1, those confusing days in Sec 2, those power packed days in Sec 3 and finally these memorable days in Sec 4. You know, no matter how stupid each of us get, or how much we argue, we always remember we’re bros, and that really shows me what true broship is about. Scouts or no Scouts, we’ve been through a lot together, and rest assured, I won’t be able to forget you when I leave SJI.  If we’re going on to Ventures, then its another 2 years of knots, poles and songs.  Thanks for being my Friend, Imran.

Selva – Haha Bro, you’re another long time friend. Well we weren’t really close in Sec 1 but after Sec 2 , we started working together more, and it’s been fun being with you man. Haha, you’re the only person who knows everything that happens with me , and that’s quite a huge thing to carry. But, just as I try to be there for you, you’ve always been there for me, and though I rarely say it, I’m really grateful. We’ve all had our ups and downs, and we’ve been through most of them together. Bro, you were my first step into the world of flirting, and look at me now! Haha. Shucks, leaving SJI doesn’t mean we forget each other eh bro?

Jeremy Phua – Brudder! Alright, you’re hands down the most selfless man I’ve met. You know, I really try not to bother you, but I know whenever I need help, I can always turn to you. You’re such a good friend to talk to, and to work with, its no surprise you were SPL.  Haha, writing these affirmations makes me think of old memories, and I still remember that time you tested my “initiative and friendship” by pretending to tie your shoelaces to see if I would carry the bamboo. Brings back laughter man. Like I’ve always said, Love ya Man. (In a totally platonic sense)

LIUGEWEI! – Haha, G-Man. You know to be honest, I was uncomfortable around you till Sec 3 as well, but man, I don’t regret becoming your friend. Broship with you is one adventure after another, and you’re an inspiration for standing strong despite criticism. I’ve never told you this, but I really am proud to be your friend, because I enjoy being a Scout, not because of the activities, but because of the people I do it with. Don’t play too much with ahem ahem, but anyways, hope to see ya in Ventures, if not, then maybe some time later after SJI.

Santosh C. – DUDE! Haha, it’s been an awesome experience being both in the same class and in Scouts with you. Whenever I need help, you’re always willing to help and its such a blessing to know I have friends I can lean on. We’ve gone through a lot bro, and our friendship extends beyond just the school, to daily escapades and our inside jokes.  Man, thanks for being my friend!

Wei Kiat – Haha, I still blame myself for persuading you to join Scouts, telling you that there would Girl Guides everywhere. But I never regret befriending you, cos each moment I spend with you, I really do enjoy myself. Your duplicity is so amusing and enriching because not only are you ridiculous , but at times you surpass me in maturity and thought. Your capricious nature is very refreshing and I enjoy being your friend, and I hope you enjoy vice versa.

Lim Jiang - LJ! Haha we’ve worked together since Sec 2 UTC, WHERE WE RACKED UP BEST PATROL 2007! haha, i remember sean chee told me that I should stick around people like you and Joe Wei more often cos you’re more likely to go far. The thing is, even if Sean Chee hadn’t said that, I would have stuck by you anyway cos being your friend is really one heck of an adventure. I think we both know that our friendship doesn’t just in Scouts, but even transcends into music, sports and more. I really a grateful to be your friend man! Thanks!

Theodore – SECRETARY! Haha, I think our friendship really can’t be put in words. I’ve enjoyed all the time I’ve spent ebign your friend, talking about bullshit and still enjoying ourselves. Your magnanimous personality is very coheisve with so many people, and I truly admire your gift of always staying happy. Congrats on your CCA! And thanks for being my friend bro!

Gerald Chan – Haha, it’s been great knowing you so far man. I always find it easy talking to you and the advice you give never fails to persuade me to keep going on. I miss those bus rides, because we really share such a common ground that my friendship with you is very blessed. Thanks for always being my friend!

Oo Guolin – DUDEEE! Haha, bro, you’re one of my more special friends. It’s always nice talking to you, cos you remain so casual yet maintain a strong and mature persona. PLTC with you was awesome and I’ve worked with you for so many events , I’d be surprised if I didn’t know how you work anymore. Thanks for being my friend man!

Matthias - Chinese Brother! Aiya, nuff said for you. We both work together like yin and yang, or something like that. I enjoy being in your company and your stale and slapstick humour. We’ve really been through a lot, and I cannot imagine us moving apart man. Real proud to be the friend of Bboy Green. Thanks Man!

Nicholas Loo – You finally don’t owe me money eh? Haha, it’s been awesome working with you man, ever since Sec 1. I’ll alwways remember Nicholas Loo and the Rocking Chocolate Factory, and I hope we still continue our friendship long after bro. I never regret a day spent with you and I guess I’ve really learnt how to rock on from you. Thanks for being my friend man!

Marcus Teow and Zi Ran – DUDES! Dolphin Patrol has been awesome with you guys. I don’t regret ever getting you guys in my patrol cos it’s been so fun and an adventure trying to improve the patrol with your help. Thanks for always being there when I need you guys, and for standing strong. Proud to have you as my bros.

The rest of my level, it’s been awesome 4 Years with you guys. After stepping down, I hope our friendships do not break. Blood , Sweat and Tears for Pelandok eh? We’ve finally done it, and we can leave with a smile on our face. of course, if you can come back for Round 2, eh?

Stacey, Andreas, Anthony, Adithya, Shi Ming, Emmanuel, Gui Liang, Sadiq, Thang, Le Fa, Kesigun, Marcus Siow, Caleb, Yash, thanks for being such great friends and bros. Scouts O9 eh?

Marcus Png, Reuben, Sean Chee, Matthew Khoo, Aravind, Darren, Shannon Tay,Matthew Lim, Rubegan, Naveen, Lu Zhi, Nicholas Chan, Shannon Yong, Jia Lei, Leonard, Joshua Goh, thanks for being great seniors as ventures and rovers. I guess people don’t say that much to you guys, but your guidance is much appreciated.

Of course, who can forget Mr Gregory, Mr Kwang, Mr Chua, Mr Tan, Ms Leong, Ms Woo, Mr Malcolm Tan, Jun Ren – Thanks for being supporting teachers and leaders in the unit and always being there for advice!

An Essay forEducation I had to do as an assignment. Thought I’d jsut put it up on the blog

Which aspects of your education do you think will be most useful to you in adult life?

Education is a universal aspect of all our lives. From the poorest child in Africa, to the richest eighty year old man, everyone is constantly learning something new every second. It simply does not stop at our transition into the working world but rather is enhanced then. However, the majority of our education still exists in those candid years we spend in educational institutions, assimilating the concept of algebra and scratching our heads over those pesky logarithmic equations. The majority of us would know however that education is not limited to the classroom, but is a holistic and continuous process.  If we were to be selective though, it would be clear which aspects of our education would be most important to us in our adult life.

Education is not about challenging the brain’s capacity to store information, but rather the provoking of thought. In a classroom scenario, when our Physics tutor, vividly describes to us the random motion of particles in accordance to the Brownian motion, he does not simply describe the way particles move, but rather challenges us to observe the interactions of particles in daily life and observe the application of the theory before our very own eyes. In the same way, as we mature, the necessity to constantly understand the world exists. Thought provoked produces fascinating results. Thomas Edison had his thought provoked to find a way to mechanically produce light in a stored form. Had he been simply taught to learn that light comes from the Sun, we would be working in such dim conditions; our life would be quite literally, gloomy. Rather, the aspect of thought provoking present across all educational systems is very important to our lives and is a fundamental principle of existence.

Education dwells into an adventurous dimension nowadays as well. Recount the fantastic tales of the capped hero Indiana Jones, and would be able to distinguish that despite his numerous failures and discrepancies, he would strive forward to achieve what he desired. In exactly the same manner, if were unfortunate enough to be incapable of solving that nasty calculus question, we are not shunned away from the rest of the class. Instead, our education system teaches us to push on, to experiment, and to discover new possibilities. It is rather the principle of the matter, than the need to find the correct answer. Students fail to see the application of such a profound ideal in our lives most of the time. It is this ability to pick ourselves up when we fall that forms the crux of our determination to succeed, and is a very contributing aspect of our adult lives.

Lastly, I personally concur with the fact that education’s prime aspect is that of a community education. Most of us study in schools with people from various cultures, socio-economic backgrounds as well as of different characters. There are no two people who are alike. Classrooms are an avenue for discussion and sharing, for people to voice their opinions and to learn from each other. This would be increasingly important as we venture into the working world, where we realise it is paramount we cooperate with others, accommodate their discrepancies and appreciate their strengths. Co curricular activities and project work in schools further enhance the opportunities for students to develop interpersonal skills and social awareness.

Education is certainly not thirty odd boys in a lecture theatre scribbling frantically the words of a scrawny mathematics tutor. Nay, it is the pursuit of knowledge and the components of it which follow. By the time we’re forty, we would forget basics such as the chemical equation for a neutralisation reaction, but we would almost in fact, remember the aspects mentioned above .It is of course, human nature.

a disappearing act by the man in shades

August 3, 2009 · 2 Comments

let me just get some lyrics out of my head first :

Cause she hold me down every time I hit her up
When I get right I promise that we gon live it up
She make me beg for it till she give it up
And I say the same thing every single time

I say you the youda best
you the youda best
you the youda best
you the youda best
you the best I Eva had
best I eva had
best I eva had
best I eva had

Best I Ever Had- Drake

Alright, so its been a while since I’ve blogged. Been really busy studying up for the Prelims and O Levels. I have this sudden urge to do well, to succeed in this examination. My Mother Tongue O Level results will be coming out this week, and if you like pray, PRAY FOR ME! ;D. Haha, I’ll really be testing my faith by putting all this in God’s hands.

Down with a bit of the flu, doctor says I’m killing myself. I really am glad I’ve got such an honest doctor who I can speak to personally. We’re like friends, well almost. Anyways, i’m off school for 2 days. Gives me some time to work up my system and catch up on revision and rest.

A lot has happened . First of all, I’ve finally stepped down from Scouts. It’s a sudden detachment, which really takes its toll. The PLC of 2010 shows a lot of potential, and to be honest, I’m rather jealous that they have such an efficient Top 3. If only ours was like that, it would have been so much easier to carry  out our vision. All the best to them though, may their problems be horribily big so that they can grow, and their successes bigger.

Good luck to Yun Rong and OCY in leading Dolphin to a greater future. I really have a connection with the patrol now. DOn’t hesistate to look for me if you need help, but really make Dolphin your own.

Bryan Low - Dude, sorry you gotta move, but I guess Tiger needed you more. Have fun there man, I’ll miss you as a Dolphin but remember what you did. 6th Place man.

Shaun, Fatris, Marcus – Work well with each other. Your PLTC has already beugn, but focus on your personal growth. Remember to instill in yourself a love for the unit, a love for an ideal future. Passion is not a gift, its a choice.

Christopher and Daniel – Listen guys, I’m really proud to be your PL. Chris, you deserve that Best Cadet award, but learn to grow in thought and voice. Speak out and enjoy yourself more as a scout. It has so much to offer you. Daniel, I’ve not seen you around much but I’m sure you’ll grow to be an awesome Dolphin as well. Live life my juniors and friends.

Prefects is coming to a close as well, as the stepping up of the Exco draws near. For lack of controversy, I won’t comment on the EXCO of 2009, but they did do a fairly well job of maintaining the school as it is. Just hope the next EXCO would actually change the school for the better.

Good luck to Hassanall and Zong Yang as you guys take over Morning Canteen. It’ll be one heck of a ride, I assure you. Make friends not enemies.

My new Head of Secreteriat, I don’t know who you are yet. Till thenthough, I look forward to meeting you

AOC needs a kick in the ass to get restarted. I hope you’re working on that schedule Nicholas.

Nevin is rounding up the people for St Joseph’s Call. I guess its a hard project to kickstart. But once its on the roll, this project will be something I can look back with pride. It just sucks I came up with this in Sec 4 only.

Glen , we’ll come up with that ilovelifeinc project after our O’s! I’m seeing a future in the next dimension.

The Roses is really doing awesome with their gigs. Kinda proud to have been the one who started them off on their first gig. So good luck to you guys, Dillon, Keenan, Kumarr, Bryan Lum and of course their Manager, Josh Chan.I’ll keep you in the loop for any gigs, but stay headstrong !

BOTY Asia just went by. Wish I could have gone to see, would have loved to get back involved in BBoying. Selva, Derek and Jem went though. Vids are dope btw. ;D

I normally do my affirmations at the end of the year, so I don’t want to loop into that right now. JC choosing is very difficult. A lot of Pros and Cons to consider.

Have been to SJII for their Talk – Not really my cup of tea

Have been to CJC for their Symposium where I met Kevin! – Looks really comfy and warm. I might consider it even.

You know for some funny reason, I can’t stick with blogging about my life. I need to blog about my thoughts. Look for that in my next post. To those who realise there isn’t a tagboard. You can always comment using the comment button.

I’ve restarted my Tumblr btw, for random disarranged thoughts.

My Twitter’s more active now, so you can go there as well ;D Follow me

ilovelife. do you?
